ProduceOne Growers and Packers

Formally Gillespie’s Produce and Packing, ProduceOne has been procuring and packing hard produce for 38 years.

In an effort to meet and exceed customer expectations John O'Leary (Divisional Manager) and Garth Milne (Business Development Manager) seized the opportunity to fulfil on a marketing opportunity to expand the business in the areas of prepacked soft vegetables and fruit.

With the introduction of these categories all product was packed by hand. In an effort to cope with immediate volume and consistent tonnage increases, and realising the need to become more efficient in both production and reduce costs, they looked to invest in automated machinery. This in itself was a task as the machinery would not only need to be quick but would also need to be gentle with the product, and thus the relationship with David Proud and NEWTEC was established.

We currently have six NEWTEC machines, all of these have automatic bin tippers, soft fill hoppers and inspection tables. They are also fitted with check weighers as part of our quality assurance HACCP system.

The efficiencies and savings that have been achieved has given us the opportunity to be competitive in the market place which has resulted with us being able to supply product into all of the major supermarket chains.

Although our first machine was a 9-bucket single head NEWTEC with Gillenkirch attachment, (the first and I believe still the only pillow pack 1kg fresh tomatoes sold in NSW) our stable has now grown to include:

9 bucket twin head NEWTEC with Gillenkirch attachment for Tomatoes

12 bucket twin head NEWTEC with KWIKLOK for Washed Potatoes

14 bucket twin head NEWTEC with KWIKLOK for Apples

12 bucket twin head NEWTEC with netting attachments for Citrus

9 bucket twin head NEWTEC with clipping attachments for Onions

In all instances David has kept us informed of overseas trends and market opportunities, in his own greedy little way this has not only led to new sales with us but has also allowed us to become more efficient and therefore more competitive in the market place. We have recently established a pack shed in VIC and will be shortly opening in QLD. This in turn will allow us the opportunity to become a national supplier to the major chains.
